Baymirza Hayit - born on December 17, 1917, died on October 31, 2006. Burial is scheduled for tomorrow, November 7, 2006 Place of birth: Village of Yargorgan, Namangan District, Fergana Valley, then Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic. Recruited to the Red Army of the USSR in 1941 and captured by Nazi troops near Slutsk City, then Belorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, the same year. In 1950 get PhD degree at Westfalen University in Muenster specializing in History of Kokand and Alash governments of Turkistan (Soviet Central Asia). Mr. Hayit's name is very well known in the Turkic world and among the researchers of the history and national-liberation movements of Central Asian nations. His name has been associated with RFE/RL, with which he was cooperating both directly, contributing to RFE/RL programs in Central Asian languages, and indirectly, participating in round table discussions and giving his expertise to Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Turkmen and Uzbek services while in Munich, Germany. Baymirza Hayit visited Central Asian nations after the collapse of the Soviet Union several times. Since mid-90-Es Uzbek authorities officially banned his entrance to this country. Doctor Hayit is survived by his wife Ruth Hayit, by his sons Ertay and Mirza, his daughter Dilbar and his grandchildren Nadira, Karima, Rana, Yaschar, Karim, Ramin and Dariya. Burial and farewell ceremony with that prominent Central Asian emigre will take place at Trauerhalle des Kalker Friedhof, 51107 Koln-Merheim, Germany, at 12:00.
